A Look Inside the Parents or Family Members Workshop
Building the College Application List
Parents and Family Members will learn to:
- Assist students in clarifying their priorities and requirements for the ideal college experience
- Help students develop a college application list based on best fit
- Ensure that students' lists have a strong mix of “reach,” “target,” and “safety” schools
Writing the College Application Essays
Parents and Family Members will learn to:
- Support students in brainstorming and developing impactful college application essays, including Personal Statement Essays (AKA Common App Essay, College Essay), UC PIQ Essays, and Supplemental Essays
Developing the Activities List/Resume
Parents and Family Members will learn to:
- Assist students in identifying the activities that best showcase their strengths, passion, and commitment
- Guide students in ranking the activities on their lists in order of importance
- Help students properly describe each activity for maximum effect
Preparing for Letters of Recommendation
Parents and Family Members will learn to:
- Work with students to develop a list of potential recommenders who will help enrich their application
- Aid students in compiling a bio that will assist recommenders in writing meaningful letters of recommendation
